2019, May 21

Introduction

When it comes to managing and migrating data in Salesforce, having the right tools at your disposal is crucial. There are many simple data ETL tools in the cloud these days. Two popular options for Salesforce admins for this task are Dataloader and Dataloader.io. Another such tool is Skyvia. In this blog post, we’ll compare these two cloud based services, Dataloader.io and Skyvia to help you choose the one that best fits your organization’s needs.

Dataloader.io is a Cloud-based tool built by MuleSoft and hosted in the cloud. The Dataloader on the other hand is an application downloaded and installed on the computer. Both “dataloader” tools are used to load data files into Salesforce objects.

In the context of working with data in Salesforce, both Dataloader.io and Skyvia offer similar functionality. Instead of listing features and functions, I will give a perspective on how these tools compare.

If you are not familiar with Skyvia, it is called a Universal Data Cloud platform. Can be described more as a simple, low-cost Cloud ETL platform. It enables simple data flows with multiple prebuilt connectors and act as run-time to perform data transfer between 2 data sources. Skyvia is not specific to Salesforce but offers number of system connectors and Salesforce is one of them. Dataloader.io is more Salesforce centric tool designed to move data to/from Salesforce and other sources. Both tools allow admin to easily set up connections to data and systems such as Salesforce and SFTP or FTP server to load csv file data into Salesforce. Or set up export job from Salesforce and post csv file ot S/FTP site, bi-directional.

  1. User Interface and Ease of Use:

    • Dataloader.io: Dataloader.io is known for its user-friendly interface. It offers a straightforward and intuitive experience, making it easy for both beginners and experienced users to navigate and perform data-related tasks.

    • Skyvia: Skyvia also provides a user-friendly interface, but some users may find it slightly less intuitive than Dataloader.io. However, it offers a comprehensive set of features that can be advantageous for advanced users.

  2. Data Loading and Synchronization:

    • Dataloader.io: Dataloader.io is designed primarily for data loading and extraction. It excels in handling large volumes of data and supports various file formats. It also allows you to schedule data loads and automate tasks efficiently.

    • Skyvia: Skyvia offers a broader scope of services, including data integration and synchronization. While it may not be as specialized as Dataloader.io in data loading, it shines when it comes to synchronizing data between Salesforce and other applications.

  3. Data Transformation and Mapping:

    • Dataloader.io: Dataloader.io provides basic data mapping capabilities, allowing you to map fields between source and target systems. It’s suitable for straightforward data loading tasks.

    • Skyvia: Skyvia offers more advanced data transformation and mapping options, making it a better choice for complex data integration scenarios where data needs to be transformed or cleaned before being loaded into Salesforce.

  4. Price and Cost-effectiveness:

    • Dataloader.io: Dataloader.io offers a free version with limited functionality and paid plans with tiered pricing based on usage. This makes it a cost-effective choice for smaller organizations or those with simpler data needs.

    • Skyvia: Skyvia offers a free plan with limited features and paid plans with flexible pricing, including pay-as-you-go options. While it provides a wide range of capabilities, it may be costlier for organizations with extensive data integration requirements.

  5. Support and Community:

    • Dataloader.io: Dataloader.io benefits from Salesforce’s extensive community and support resources. You can find a wealth of documentation and community forums for assistance.

    • Skyvia: Skyvia also offers support resources but may not have the same level of community engagement as Dataloader.io.

Conclusion:

Choosing between Dataloader.io and Skyvia depends on your specific Salesforce data needs. If you require a straightforward, user-friendly tool for data loading and extraction, Dataloader.io is an excellent choice. On the other hand, if you need more extensive data integration and synchronization capabilities, including data transformation and mapping, Skyvia may be the better fit.

Ultimately, the decision should be based on your organization’s size, budget, and the complexity of your data management requirements. Both tools have their strengths, so consider your unique use case carefully before making a choice.
